The mechanistic structure in organizations focuses on rules and regulations that emphasize on a strong and controlling middle management and operations through a centralized staff. These types of organizations stress on developing “well-documented control systems” along with specific techniques for the process of decision-making (Uhl-Bien, Schermerhorn, Osborn, 2014). This vertical structure of control and specialization can have side effects in mechanistic organizations like the United States Postal Service like less motivated employees and a general atmosphere of forced effort and lack of “capacity to adjust”.
